Mall-hopping in Xinyi
Xinyi is built around a cluster of connected and adjacent malls — the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi complex, Breeze Xinyi, ATT4FUN and the Taipei 101 mall itself — each with a slightly different personality, from department-store formal to younger and more experiential. It's also home to Eslite Xinyi, a 24-hour flagship of Taiwan's beloved bookstore chain, worth a browse even if you don't read Chinese.
Elephant Mountain (Xiangshan)
The single best free thing to do in Xinyi. The Xiangshan hiking trail climbs steeply but briefly — most people reach the main viewing platform, "Six Giant Rocks," in 20–30 minutes — to a boulder-framed view of Taipei 101 rising over the skyline. It's one of the best photo spots in the city, full stop, and it's completely free.
Go for sunset. The platform gets crowded 30–45 minutes before sunset on clear days, so arrive a bit earlier to claim a good spot, and bring a small flashlight or use your phone for the walk back down after dark — the trail is only partially lit.
Nightlife & rooftop bars
Xinyi is Taipei's most concentrated nightlife district for bars and clubs, especially around the ATT4FUN and Neo19 buildings, with a strong rooftop-bar scene that takes advantage of the Taipei 101 views. It skews more upscale and international than Ximending's younger, edgier crowd.
